City Manager
As City Manager, municipal executive duties include oversight of the budget and day-to-day municipal operation of the city and all of its departments. The City Manager provides recommendations to the City Council concerning the affairs of the city.
Adam R. Smith was appointed City Administrator in November 2014. Prior to his service in Grand Ledge, he served as the Manager for Mackinaw City and the City of Jonesville, Michigan. As City Manager, his Municipal Executive duties include oversight of the budget and day-to-day municipal operations of the City. Mr. Smith provides recommendations to the City Council concerning the affairs of the City. Adam is licensed by the State of Michigan Bureau of Aeronautics as an Airport Manager and assists in the enforcement of federal, state, and local rules and regulations pertaining to the Abrams Municipal Airport, its aircraft, airmen, and women.
Mr. Smith served on the Board of Directors and remains involved with the Michigan Municipal Executives, Michigan Local Government Management Association, the Michigan Municipal League's Workers' Compensation Fund Board of Trustees, and the Elected Officials Academy Advisory Board. Adam has worked to place public administration interns and fellows in communities throughout Michigan annually since 2008. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Michigan University and remains committed to lifelong learning.
Assistant City Manager
Amee King began work at the City of Grand Ledge in 1999. Other municipal experience includes 8 years working at the Michigan Municipal League (MML). As the Assistant City Manager, her duties include leading the Human Resources department, Assistant Airport Manager of Abrams Municipal Airport, and staff lead for the 13-member Downtown Development Authority. Amee has maintained Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) professional status since 2017, became a Certified Public Manager through Saginaw Valley State University in 2019, obtained her Senior Certified Professional Certificate through the International Public Management Association for Human Resources in 2023, and has successfully completed the Women’s Municipal Leadership Program/1650 Project through the MML.
Amee is a strong believer in the value of continual education. Additionally, she is an avid lover of the outdoors who enjoys gardening, fishing, kayaking, and snowmobiling.
