Executive Order: Stay Home Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order (EO 2020-21). The order directs all Michigan businesses and operations to temporarily suspend in-person operations that are not necessary to sustain or protect life. This order continues through April 13, 2020 at 11:59 pm.




The City of Grand Ledge is taking a number of precautionary mitigation strategy measures to deter the spread of COVID-19. Please be advised of the following temporary measures:

  • City Hall will be closed to the general public until further notice; the administration will continue to be available Mon.-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and may be reached by phone at (517) 627-2149 or email. Residents and businesses are encouraged to utilize the drop-box at City Hall for all city correspondence in hard copy form or utilize online options through
  • Alterations at City Hall
    • Rental of City amenities are postponed until further notice (including the Senior Meal Room).
    • Notary services are unavailable at this time.
    • Applications for peddler permits are not being accepted at this time.
    • The sale of a cemetery lot will only be permitted at this time if it accompanies a burial request.
  • Building Department​​​ Updates
    • Non-essential trades and building permits will not be issued at this time. Non-essential pertains to any work that is not necessary to sustain or protect life. ​​​​​​
    • Accomodations will be made in the event of a public safety emergency, as it pertains to the safety of a structure and/or residents.

  • Water Service and Payments
    • Water shutoffs for past due amounts will be suspended at this time.
    • Utility payments will be accepted by drop-box (located at the N. Clinton entrance), in the mail, through online payments or auto-pay, and over the phone using a credit card.
  • Parks and Amenities
    • Recycling and Compost Centers are closed until further notice. Annual passes are not for sale at this time.
    • Playgrounds and recreation structures within the City are closed until further notice.
  • Police Department
    • The Police Department will continue to provide police service to the businesses and citizens of Grand Ledge, however, we will be limiting our in-person response to high-priority calls.     • Prescription drug drop-off and PBT administering are currently suspended.
    • Parking tickets, parking passes, and other Police Department payments can be made via mail and dropbox.
    • On-street, overnight parking is permitted until further notice
    • Curfew Reminder: Minors under the age of 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult over 21 years between the hours of 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM.
  • Fire Department
    • Please be advised that all burning permits have been suspended by the Fire Chief. This includes bonfires as well as Township yard debris burning (burning of yard debris is already prohibited in the City). This allows our limited GLAESA staff focused on COVID-19 response rather than potential wildfires. We recognize the untimeliness of no bonfires in the backyard in the time of “Stay Home” but do not have the public safety resources to dedicate towards monitoring those bonfires.
  • City Board and Commission meetings have been canceled until further notice.
  • We encourage residents and businesses to utilize mail and drop-box at City Hall for payments, permits, applications, and any other correspondence.
